There is almost no water wasted due to the nature of the planting area. Where drainage is a problem raised beds will allow gardening as water will drain away from within the beds.

Planting soil can be improved in consistency by adding compost, sand or other materials. You will be only working with a small area rather than an entire yard or garden area this will make the job easy and less expensive than conditioning an entire garden or yard. You never walk on the soil so compaction is never a problem.

Almost any plant can be grown in raised beds, everything from vegetables, flowers small shrubs and small varieties of trees.  With only a few exceptions most everything planted will do very well.

Common pressure treated lumber which is available in all lumberyards and home improvement stores and is suitable for this type of construction. This product will also resist decay, and cost is considerably less than cedar or redwood.
